About Me

Sawan Kapoor, also known as ‘The Career Guy’, is India’s leading career coach. Sawan completed his B.B.A. from Western Michigan University in 2001 in the United States and consequently his M.Sc. in Retail Management from the University of Stirling, U.K. and started working for Daymon Worldwide, the world's largest private label broker in the FMCG industry.

He quickly progressed from an entry level position to roles of progressive responsibility managing the business across beverages, snack, alcohol, organic and premium food categories for retail customers such as Wegmans Food Markets, Meijer Stores and Safeway Stores, while at Daymon. In 2006, Sawan joined Total Wine & More, America’s largest retailer of wines & spirits but unfortunately was unable to fit into the organization culturally. In less than 6 months at Total Wine, he was fired and faced the situation of getting a job within 30 days or having to leave the US as per the laws.

In 2013, he returned to his motherland to take over his family business, Kapoor Lamp Shades as a third generation leader of this company that is as old as our country's independence. Sawan built the Projects division into the largest one-stop shop lighting solutions company with customers such as Infosys, Sobha Developers, Paypal, Netflix, ITC, Marriott, IHG, Manipal, Embassy, Radisson, GOI and many more.

While a CEO role would be sufficient for most, in 2020 having grown and operationally optimizing the family business, Sawan stepped away from its operations to build a career coaching startup. In addition to the strategic role he plays at Kapoor Lamp Shades, Sawan today actively runs Dire To Hire LLP, which since its inception has helped over 10,000 working professionals multiply their salary and accelerate their career game.

The experience of getting fired served as a catalyst for Sawan to come up with a scientific, detail oriented, systematic process to find his dream job, one that was exactly the right fit for him. He used this foolproof system to find his next job, one in which he was massively successful, and rose to become the CEO of a multi million dollar organisation in the Wine & Spirits industry, at the age of 30.
